What are Vertical Form Fill Seal Machines

A vertical form filling sealing machine, also known as a VFFS Machine, is a type of automated assembly-line product packaging system that is widely used in the food industry to improve packaging. This packaging technology is most commonly used in the food business; however, it is also used in a range of other industries such as pharmaceuticals, dairy, cosmetics, chemicals, and hardware.

The Filling System on this machine will be beneficial for packing both solid and liquid products. The vertical FFS machine creates side, center seal, and custom formats of flexible plastic pouches from a flat roll of packaging material while also filling the bags with product.

How does a VFFS machine operate?

The Vertical FFS machines' process can be classified into seven processes:

To mount and unwind film

a single sheet is rolled around a core and attached on a positive-drive shaft. This roll is dragged by film transport belts, which activates the unwinding mechanism. Sensors control the unwinding length.

Film tension and unwinding mechanism

An arm in the back of the VFFS packaging machine passes over the unwound film. The arm goes up and down to keep the film tensioned so that it does not loosen or wander from side to side while moving continually.

Batch printing

This assembly can accommodate an online batch printing mechanism that prints batch details, price, and DOM-Expiry date.

Film tracking and installation.

Once the film has passed beneath the sensor, it passes by the registration camera/print mark sensor, which helps to keep the film length cutting positioned correctly, ensuring that the film is cut in the correct location. It will ensure that the printed artwork is in the correct location on the pouch.

Bag forming

The film sheet then enters a forming tube assembly, where the edges match or overlap to form the shape of a tube. The vertical sealing bar warms the material, creating a tube-like structure that serves as the foundation for the product package.

Bag Filling and Sealing

A horizontal sealer seals the top of the first pouch and the bottom of the next pouch. The product is then placed in the packaging, which is a tube-like structure at this time, and all side sealed bags/pouches are cut and separated from one another.

Pouch discharge or take cut off.

Pouches have been formed, filled, and sealed before being sliced into individual packets and ready for shipment. The pouches are removed via a belt conveyor.

What are the many types of vertical FFS machines?

Milk packing Machine:

The packaging roll is LDPE, and this machine has a center seal pillow type pouch style. Milk is one of the most popular dairy products in India, and packing it is difficult due to its daily production, perishability, and high demand.

Oil/Ghee Packing Machine:

This machine uses LDPE packaging rolls and a center seal pillow pouch shape. 1 litre edible oil, 1⁄2 and 1 litre ghee is available in such packages.

Pepsi Packing Machine packs artificial fruit juices in LDPE packaging rolls ranging from 20 ml to 70 ml in quantity. This is a low-cost product that comes in tubed ice type.

FFS sachet packer models can pack items weighing 1 to 100 grams into little pouches or sachets. This model is used to pack powder, liquid, and paste materials for single-use retail packaging.

The VFFS with Cup Filler machine is ideal for packing granular, free-flowing products ranging from 100gm to 1Kg. It is commonly used for rice, coffee beans, salt, detergent, grains, pulses, bhujiya, and medicinal powders.

VFFS with Multihead Weight Filler for Lightweight Products

This multihead weigher packaging machine is excellent for packing irregularly shaped, lightweight, high-value free flow or entangled products such as chips, snacks, tea granules, candies, dry fruits, expensive brands of rice, etc.

Now the question is, why do you need a vertical FFS?

Vertical FFS machines are particularly essential from a business perspective since they increase the speed of packing, which is a major problem for many food processors as they struggle to cope with the ever-increasing operational costs and high demands.

Vertical FFS Systems are widely used in the food industry, but which machine is most suited to your products?

If you make or pack powdered products like milk powder, cocoa powder, tea dust, flours, or spices, VFFS with Auger Filler is the best option.

The VFFS with Cup filler is ideal for granular products, including coffee beans, rice, and salt, as well as pharmaceutical powders, tablets, and detergent granules.
